About

I am currently a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow and graduate student in psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, where I work with Dr. Mark D’Esposito.

I was born in South Africa, but grew up in suburban Denver. I moved to the big city for college and completed my undergraduate studies in cognitive neuroscience and philosophy of mind at the City University of New York, where I worked with Dr. Jennifer Mangels. After graduating, I worked for 2 years as a research assistant at the Child Mind Institute under the supervision of Dr. Michael Milham.

Geek Friendly was born in August 2006 at the Trident Cafe in Boulder, CO during a planning meeting for the first BarCampBoulder. I made a point that while wiki software (which we were using to organize the event) was certainly “geek friendly,” it wasn’t (at that point) very people friendly. Proud of my freshly minted neologism, and in the mood to start a new blog, I registered the domain that very night.

More information about my experience and interests can be found in my CV.

Outside of science, I enjoy taking photos.

I live in Southwest Berkeley with my wife Theresa and two cats.
